Virginia Living’s 2022 Top Doctors issue hits newsstands each year, showcasing over 1,000 of Virginia's top medical professionals. Arthritis & Sports is proud to announce that three of its physicians were selected as "Top Doctors" of 2022 by Virginia Living Magazine in their February 2022 issue - Dr. Randall Peyton, Dr. Matthew Griffith, and Dr. David Goodwin!


These Top Docs are nominated by their peers in the medical field and thoroughly reviewed by Virginia Living before being chosen, putting them in the top 5% of doctors in the state of Virginia.

Dr. Randall S. Peyton has been practicing orthopaedics in the Northern Virginia area since 1995. Dedicated to delivering quality care, Dr. Peyton is President and CEO of Arthritis & Sports, which he founded in January 1998. Dr. Peyton is an orthopaedic total joint surgeon, focused on the treatment of arthritis, sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems of the hip, knee and shoulder. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Dr. Peyton’s medical career began at the Medical College of Virginia where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. He then served his residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he later acted as Chief Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his fellowship training in adult reconstruction and total joint replacement surgery at the prestigious Rothman Institute of the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Dr. Peyton has performed thousands of knee and hip replacements.

In addition to his work at Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Peyton is proud to support the continued training of other orthopaedic surgeons, as well as the training of future orthopaedic surgeons. In 2016, Dr. Peyton created Arthritis & Sports’ first fellowship program, which focuses on adult hip and knee reconstruction. Additionally, Dr. Peyton is regularly featured as a guest speaker at surgeon education courses throughout the country (view here). These courses address relevant concepts and techniques for hip replacement, total knee replacement, and ACL repair surgeries that comprise the foundation for the development of new and more complex surgical skills.  These courses are regularly attended by surgeons from around the world. Since 2014, Dr. Peyton has presented on anterior hip replacements during numerous courses, including Beginner, Advanced, and Revision Courses in Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Miami, and also Master's Courses in Chicago.

 

Dr. Matthew Griffith is dedicated to providing state of the art care to patients with sports injuries and athletic, traumatic and degenerative disorders. His expertise includes minimally invasive and arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, elbow and knee as well as reconstructive surgery including total shoulder and reverse shoulder replacements. He is one of the few in the world to remove bakers cysts through the arthroscope, and also performs regenerative procedures like PRP injections.

Dr. Griffith attended Duke University for his undergraduate education and received his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (Cornell University) in New York City. Subsequently, he received fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard University) where he served as an assistant team physician for the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Bruins.

In addition to his work at Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Griffith is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Griffith is dedicated to caring for athletes in the area and is currently team physician for the Potomac Falls Panthers and Park View Patriots high school football teams.

 

Dr. David Goodwin is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to both youth and adult patients with shoulder, knee, hip, and sports injuries. After attending George Washington University for his undergraduate and medical education, Dr. Goodwin completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Georgetown University. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. During his training, Dr. Goodwin specialized in the treatment of athletic injuries, arthroscopy, and shoulder surgery, with a focus in hip arthroscopy and cartilage restoration techniques.


Dr. Goodwin is committed to providing state-of-the-art care to his patients with advanced arthroscopy and joint preservation techniques. His expertise includes minimally invasive, arthroscopic, and reconstructive procedures of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also brings extensive experience in the treatment of pediatric injuries and injury prevention in children and utilizes numerous noninvasive procedures for injuries such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.

Dr. Goodwin is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine, where he mentors medical students. Dedicated to caring for athletes in the area, Dr. Goodwin is currently a team physician for John Champe High School, Independence High School, A.C. Cesena USA, and Old Dominion Football Club. Dr. Goodwin is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
