Professional Development

Our providers are highly involved in the education and training of future medical professionals

Arthritis & Sports is pleased to offer many post-graduate experiences in the field of orthopaedics. Our mission is to train academically interested future leaders in orthopaedics so that they can contribute to the profession through their own teaching and research. Arthritis & Sports is committed to maintaining excellence in our programs by providing an environment conducive to outstanding clinical experience, expert teaching, and personal well-being.

Joint Reconstruction Fellowships

The fellowship program consists of a one-year joint replacement rotation under Dr. Randall Peyton. The fellow participates in both inpatient and outpatient care, gaining experience in the management of complex primary and revision joint replacements. Additionally, an opportunity is available for a rotation in advanced shoulder reconstruction under Dr. Matthew Griffith, providing the fellow with experience in shoulder arthroplasty.

Physician Assistant & Nurse Practitioner Rotations

Our mission is to provide the highest quality patient care in an academic environment that fosters an outstanding educational experience for physician assistants and nurse practitioners. We provide exposure to many specialties within the field of orthopaedics. Our primary goal is to allow the student the opportunity to obtain a diverse, hands on clinical and operative orthopaedic experience and to leave the rotation with a solid fundamental orthopaedic knowledge and physical exam. We are currently a preceptor site for the Shenandoah University Physician Assistant Program, James Madison University Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Program, George Washington University Nurse Practitioner Program, and Lincoln Memorial Physician Assistant Program. We are always open to add additional schools and programs.

Radiology Technologist Rotations

Students currently enrolled in a certified radiology program participate in clinic rotations. During this time, they obtain hands on training and gain experience in orthopedic radiology.  Clinical competencies, set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, are completed which allow graduates to sit for the ARRT registry exam and obtain licensure.
