I took my mom here for the first time to see Dr. Elaine Ahillen. I did a lot of research before making an appointment for my mom’s problem and because of the great reviews on this place I went ahead and made an appointment with Dr. Ahillen. We couldn’t be more happy with her expertise, patience, way to explain things and care. She was awesome explaining everything to us and giving us the treatment options my mom needs to follow. We are very happy with this place and staff. Also Ronald was awesome and professional explaining to us the instructions my mom needs to follow for her treatment. The reception staff is super nice as well. Thank you Dr. Ahillen and Ronald! We will for sure be back!

My recent care at Arthritis & Sports Orthopedics in Sterling, Virginia was outstanding by every measure. From arranging my appointment to seeing my physician, Dr. Peyton, every aspect of my visit was highly professional. Each staff member that I encountered during my visit was very polite and caring. Dr Griffith and staff are so caring and kind. From the time you walk in the door at Arthritis and Sports Medicine you are made to feel welcome.I’ve gone to this practice for decades and seen many of the surgeons. Dr Griffith is one of them! He’s an excellent shoulder surgeon and has helped me so much. He’s kind, caring, explains everything in a manner I can easily understand and very thorough. Don’t hesitate to see him if you’re experiencing shoulder and arm pain. He is excellent. I love the attention to detail by Arthritis and Sports Medicine before, during and after surgery.

I suffer from osteoarthritis in numerous joints including my wrists and hands. Dr. Ahillen treated the severe chronic pain in my wrists with steroid injections. They provided immediate (within an hour) partial relief and almost complete relief within one day. I have seen Dr. Ahillen for years and highly recommend her.

Arthritis and Sports Physical Therapist Susmita and her assistant provided exceptional patient care. Her therapeutic expertise and genuine patient interactions were very informative and reassuring.

Edwin is my PA, I guess you could say we are good friends! I have been with Arthritis and Sports since 2006 maybe! Edwin came full tilt into my life in 2012! I had to have both knees replaced at the same time! Edwin was Dr Payton’s Assistant! Thank you Lord for them both, they got me through it and I was back at my salon working in 6 weeks! God is good, because Edwin has been through some of the toughest times with me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, but you cannot retire until I am gone from this earth! 🥰

Dr. Ahillen is one of the best doctors I’ve ever seen. Attentive, patient, thorough, and kind. Saw her for an elbow fracture and felt very clear about the plan for recovery.

Dr Peyton and Monica were very open and clear on the surgery and healing process for my hip replacement. A year later and I am feeling great and feel supported if I should need anything.

Dr. Ahillen is an excellent doctor. I had both wrists operated on for carpal tunnel syndrome. She prepared me thoroughly for the surgery beforehand and provided reasonable expectations. She asked what questions I had and took time to answer each one. Her staff were professional and friendly. I had a positive experience and recommend them.

Was able to get an appointment within a day versus other Doctors! Very easy to get to! I went to see Dr. Ahillen with a crushed finger injury. She did a wonderful job explaining likely path of recovery and what might happen if it didn't go that route. She also discussed treatment and supplements to take to aid the healing process. She is very accomplished with sharing information, answering questions and establishing the treatment plan with follow-up visits.

Arthritis and Sports has been my go-to orthopedic practice for more than 25 years. Their expert staff excels in every area while consistently delivering top-tier care and customer service. Dr. Griffith performed my most recent bicep repair, and thanks to his excellent work, I'll be stepping on the bodybuilding stage just over a year later. I can't recommend them highly enough!

I suffered an injury to the middle finger of my right hand after falling, resulting in persistent pain at the base of the finger where it connects to the palm. After several visits to Arthritis & Sports Orthopedics Sterling—involving massage therapy and taping the middle and ring fingers together—the pain was resolved and my finger's mobility was restored. I saw Dr. Ahillen for a wrist injury caused by tennis. It was immediately obvious how intelligent she is and she took the time to explain everything thoroughly to me. The entire practice was well run, everyone friendly and they quickly took me back for X-rays right there before I even saw her. Highly recommend her if you are dealing with any hand or wrist issues.

I have had both knees replaced one twice because of a motorcycle accident every faze of the recovery is top notch and with compassion and you need that during your recovery

I just had four gel knee injections 4 weeks. I used to ask for Edwin as he's my old standby. For this series of injections they asked Shannon to iserve me. Well, my knee cavity is so tight that it takes a full minute to force the magic fluid into my knee? Shanon was so good at it, i hardly felt a thing! I can't understate how many good caring professionals you'll find at Arthritis and Sports. They take their jobs as an"act of love" and make each patient feel valued!

I am about two weeks out from a total knee replacement performed by Dr. Randall Peyton, and my experience with Dr. Peyton and the Arthritis & Sports team has been excellent. From the preparation leading up to surgery through the procedure itself and my follow-up care, I have felt well cared for and confident in the treatment I've received. The surgery went well, and with consistent physical therapy, I'm already seeing improvement in my mobility, flexibility, and overall function each day. I've also been very pleased with the aftercare. Monica Novak has been encouraging, responsive, and patient in answering my questions and concerns. Just as importantly, she has helped give me a clear roadmap of what to expect during each stage of my recovery over the coming weeks. I know I still have plenty of rehabilitation ahead of me, but based on my experience so far, I feel very good about my progress and about choosing Dr. Peyton and Arthritis & Sports for my knee replacement. I would highly recommend Dr. Peyton and his team to anyone considering knee replacement surgery.

Arthritis & Sports, Sterling Office was, again, a nice experience. The office staff, are always nice and pleasant to talk to. I needed to see Dr. Griffith about changing a scheduled shoulder replacement surgery date, due to other commitments requiring extensive travel during the recovery period. He explained to me that I would be out of the early stages of recovery and could function normally, except for less strength in my replaced surgery. Since I would be hauling luggage and carrying items while away, I went with the option of postponing the surgery for a few months. Dr. Griffith was great to talk to. He listened to my rambling concerns and told me that what ever I decide will be fine.

I’m very satisfied. Dr. Griffith thoroughly explained the problem with my shoulder and recommended physical therapy.

As I’ve heard numerous times and can attest…life changing. 7-year follow up for both hips being replaced and a 5-year follow up for one partial knee replacement. All good to go. Off to the Rocky Mountains in 2 months!

Never have to wait in the waiting room it’s a well oiled machine just keeps moving. I’ve been there at opening and late in the day very good service. Staff is helpful and friendly. Their care is top notch I’ve had a right knee replacement that was perfect and take shots in my left and all is working well.

Great place! Dr. Babu and Emily (tech I think, but I’m not sure what that position is called yet lol) ARE THE BEST PEOPLE I’VE MET at this office. Very caring staff similar to Chris seems to be one of the best staff members over there on the team 🙌💯🦶🙏💪 Took me a lot of time to find the right foot doctor, just like anything else :) Although, the doctor didn’t even tell us why it my surgery time got delayed and we waited for like forever lol 😤🤔 but other than that fact, she’s great! Don’t know if this receptionist is still working there, but she was a terrible employee and seemed to be not wanting to work for the insurance (it was frustrating, and she had somehow asked other patients) and I’m sure others would be frustrated when she asked us to pay out of pocket or, when the patients/customers HAVE insurance(s) Again, other than my experiences from this location, it’s great overall experience from my personal perspectives

People working there were so friendly. Surgery team has the knee replacement down to a science. Everything was exactly as they described before surgery to help alleviate fears. Great experience!

Such a wonderful and efficient practice. I've seen several doctors and PAs there for various issues. All are very compassionate and knowledgeable and always do a great job of explaining what care and treatment are needed. Everyone who works there, including the X-ray technicians, the folks at the front desk, and the folks who handle check out, is very professional and very pleasant. I've never had to wait long to be taken back for my appointment, which I also hugely appreciate.

I saw Lisa today about a torn meniscus for which I had had a shot several months ago. The pain came back about ten days ago. She explained my condition and all my options and set my mind at ease. She has been very supportive and helpful over the past several years, including for a total hip replacement in 2025. She is a pleasure to work with.

I was referred by my Chiropractor because of persistent pain in my right knee, which my PCP diagnosed as arthritic. From the moment I set up the appointment, every interaction, i.e., web, receptionist, three nurses, and Dr. Goodwin, was professional and expert-level. Dr. Goodwin showed me the X-ray and explained the arthritis diagnosis and showed me the source of the pain. He thoroughly discussed my condition and explained the treatment, which personally administered. Service was outstanding in all respects.

Shocked I haven't left a review for this magical place. I have had pain in my ankles for years - I went to specialists before, they saw nothing on the mri, so I did the months and months of PT. But the pain persisted. Then I went to Dr Babu who took one look at my mri (for both ankles) and knew the only fix was going to be surgery. One surgery in January with amazing results and one surgery today. She is up to date on new procedures that give great results. Tip: schedule PT asap. They fill up quick.

2 knees replaced and a 2 new hipsI can’t say one thing bad! Top notch Dr Payton knows his stuff as does his PA Edwin, and he’s a 10 across the board! I can say if you need easy surgery for hips , knees or shoulders, feet and hands, any of their Dr’s you can’t go wrong with Arthritis Sports!

I have been a patient at this practice twice; once for an automobile accident resulting in a severely broken arm that Dr. Peyton took care of. I was given a 50% chance of getting 100% use of my arm back and a 100% chance I would get 50% of my arm back. Due to the care and expert surgery done by Dr.Peyton, I got 100% use of my arm back. Other than the stitches (that are uniform and straight) you would never know it was ever broken. Recently, I tore my rotator cuff in the other arm. Dr. Griffiths took all the steps necessary to avoid surgery, however, as the MRI he ordered showed it was torn and surgery was the only option to rid the pain. I had surgery on a Monday, and by Thursday I was off all pain meds (mostly Tylenol and Advil) I was told on my follow up visit everything looked great so exactly 9 days after the surgery, I will start the Physical Therapy to once again, get 100% of the use of my (other) arm back. Everybody in the practice is kind, helpful, and goes above and beyond for their patients. My son-in-law is a patient for his knee, and my daughter is scheduling an appointment to look into an injured elbow. I highly recommend this practice!

I had injured my knee after a slip in the bathroom and went right to Arthritis and Sports for help. After ordering an MRI and taking X-rays they determined I had fractured a bone in my knee and needed a brace to immobilize my leg and crutches to get around. Corey understood that I was concerned about my upcoming cruise and he made sure so could safely go snd enjoy myself. I heartily recommend Arthritis and Sports for any orthopedic needs you have.

I had an excellent experience with Dr. David S. Goodwin and his practice. My 8:00 AM appointment started right on time, and the entire staff was friendly, professional, and efficient. I really appreciated that they were able to take my X-rays right there in the office, and Dr. Goodwin reviewed them with me immediately, explaining everything clearly and answering all of my questions. What impressed me most was how seamlessly everything was handled in a single visit. I left with a clear diagnosis, a treatment plan, and complete confidence that I was receiving outstanding care. I will give Dr. Goodwin a 5-star as he was pleasant, extremely knowledgeable, and asked what questions I had although I did not have many since no surgery is required at this time. He said a few words on the way out with no 'nice to meet you, see you in a month' or anything. His staff was not the friendliest. I am not an expert in the medical field and had to pull information from them to figure out next steps. I came to discuss Ortho and PT and they seemed to be referring me elsewhere for PT instead of their place. I prefer to stay with one practice for total treatment if they offer it and they are familiar w my case - which they do. They just did not seem like a happy bunch and I got the brunt of that today. I will still try them for PT and see how it goes. I expect basic courtesy and clear communication from my healthcare team. The transactional and cold behavior by the nurse and X-Ray technician I experienced was completely unacceptable. I am incredibly frustrated by this experience and expect the clinic leadership to address this lack of professionalism with the staff involved.

We have seen PA Monica Novak and Dr Griffith. Also, years ago, I took my mom to see Dr. Ahillen. All three physicians treated us with care and respect, took their time to listen and to explain, and provided thoughtful knowledgeable responses. The staff has been friendly and helpful. The only reason I almost gave 4 stars and not 5 for this review, is due to an experience we had in the past (am assuming the situation hasn't changed) and it is that although the practice is located in Sterling, VA, a majority of surgery offerings with Dr. Griffith were in Maryland, and only a few surgical appointments were available in Reston. We do not want to travel to Maryland for surgery and so we had to wait longer to have a surgery in Reston.

I had a much anticipated visit with Dr. Griffith today regarding a torn rotator cuff. Dr. Griffith provided feedback on three options regarding the tear. He was very patient and answered all my questions completely. He invited me to return if I had further questions regarding how to proceed. So professional and knowledgeable. Explained technical protocol in a way I could easily understand. Edited to add Dr. Griffith did the surgery April, 26. It was an amazing experience. Capital Orthopaedic, where the surgery was performed, is a great facility with highly qualified and personable staff. The pain after surgery ways no worse than the pain I had for months before the surgery. Pain meds for two days and that was its Almost three months after surgery and a lot of PT, I am almost fully recovered, lifting light weights and loving life. Dr. Griffith and his staff are amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend him if you are considering surgery’s

I saw Dr Griffith for a torn meniscus. He first sent me for a MRI. After the report came in we decided to do the least invasive yet effective treatment- a cortisone shot. He is kind, patient, explains all well and doesn’t rush. I highly recommend him. The Staff is also friendly, efficient & helpful. Score a 10*!!

My family has seen most of the doctors in this practice over the years. We have traveled back from several different states to receive care from the physicians and staff at Arthritis & Sports. I was pretty apprehensive about replacing my hip joints, but am so happy my rheumatologist recommended Dr Peyton and his team. I knew what to expect, was able to do the PT near home ( I am 75-90 minutes from this location) the surgery center was awesome and my followuos with Dr Edwin were terrific. He was always smiling and attentive and paid attention to my questions.

I need PT for bursitis in my hips. I saw Vishikha and she was awesome! She targeted the issue right away and had me perform various stretches and exercises. I will continue with her for the next 6 weeks. My husband is also seeing her for a torn hamstring. She’s very good!

Very professional. Answered all my questions in detail. For me, the only negative was finding the office but the receptionist was quite helpful in this manner.

I visited 3 other doctors prior to having total knee replacement surgery and when I met with Dr. Randall Peyton, I immediately knew he would be my surgeon. From his delightful manner, very informative and patient with my questions. The office in Sterling is pristine. The staff are wonderful and the best part was that the waiting time was not even 5 minutes! They always see me right away, take x-rays right away with no wait. This generally doesn't happen! I love Dr. Peyton and his staff and I highly recommend him if you are thinking of any surgery.

Absolutely the best from check in assistant asking questions pertinent to my condition and the thoroughness of Dr Griffith. If you're looking for the best this is definitely the place. Without a doubt. The practice came highly recommended for my friend and was not disappointed. Fortunate enough to get an appointment the next day. Got a recommendation on where to get an MRI called the facility got an MRI scheduled for the next day. I don't know how you get any better than that. And I was a first time patient to boot!

Dr Ahillen gave thorough explanation of trigger finger treatment. PA administered steroid shot and also answered questions as well as performed thorough physical of hand.

Dr Peyton diagnosed my knee issue as actually a disc issue in my spine. He worked quickly with another doctor to have my issue addressed at the nearby medical center.

PT did not provide the level of relief my elderly mom needed for her right arthritic knee. I appreciate that Dr. Goodwin recommended a cortizone injection. Mom gets nervous when it comes to needles, but Dr. Goodwin gave the injection in such a way that she remained calm and did not react negatively. Since the injection, mom has been getting up and climbing stairs without grabbing her knee mid-motion. It seems the relief she needed was found and was administered in an effective way considered mom’s fear. Thank you.

I was referred to Dr. Underwood by my physical therapist. He was an excellent recommendation. He takes the time to really listen to you, is kind, and patient. I’ve had two ESIs with him for a herniated disc and the treatment is significantly less uncomfortable than with other doctors. He does cadual injections where they inject near your tailbone instead of the middle of your spine. I have only had mild pain or no pain at all with this method. Highly recommended!

. I just had another epidural injection with Dr. James Underwood — I believe this was my sixth one with him. I’m currently trying to postpone surgery for as long as possible because I have two little children at home, and throughout this entire process Dr. Underwood has been incredibly kind, understanding, and compassionate.
