About the Foot & Ankle
Providing support and stability to the whole body, most foot and ankle problems are caused by overuse and improper footwear, but can also be caused by arthritis and birth defects. The foot is a strong but delicate structure composed of 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles, and 107 ligaments. Common foot problems include foot and ankle arthritis, diabetic foot problems, heel pain, bunions, and hammertoes.
At Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Sabina Malhotra treats a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. She approaches care for her patients in a conservative and preventative manner by initially using non-operative techniques, such as foot and ankle core strengthening, activity modification, and addressing any biomechanical concerns. In prolonged cases where non-operative techniques are unsuccessful, surgical options are then considered.
