About the Hand, Wrist & Elbow

At Arthritis & Sports, our specialized physicians focus on properly diagnosing and treating all injuries. Problems and injuries to the hand, wrist, and elbow are often caused by arthritis, overuse, sports injuries, and work-related injuries. These problems can make daily activities difficult to perform. The hand and wrist are composed of 27 bones, nerves, arteries, veins, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joint cartilage. Because of its daily use and intricate structure, the hand is especially vulnerable to injury. We treat all types of hand problems including, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, trigger finger, ganglion cysts, tendonitis, and other problems with the tendons, joints, and nerves of the hand area.

At Arthritis & Sports, our skilled physicians, Drs. Matthew Griffith, Elaine Ahillen, and David Goodwin, also provide care for conditions affecting your elbows. They care for broken bones in adults and children. They also diagnose and treat nerve and tendon conditions such as tennis or golfer’s elbow, degenerative conditions like arthritis, problems at birth, and work-related or sports-related injuries.

Our physicians first focus on conservative non-surgical techniques such as physical therapy, modification of activity, anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroid injections, and restricted mobility measures like splinting. When other treatments are exhausted, surgery may be the ultimate outcome.
