10 Years in South Riding: Celebrating a Decade of Patient Care

5 min read

Ten years ago, Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics opened the doors to our second practice location in South Riding, Virginia.

On September 12, 2016, what began as a new orthopedic and physical therapy clinic became an important part of our commitment to making specialized musculoskeletal care more accessible to patients throughout southern Loudoun County and the surrounding Northern Virginia community.

A lot has changed since then.

Our team has grown. The range of specialists and services available in South Riding has expanded. Thousands of appointments, recoveries, and conversations have taken place inside these walls.

One thing hasn't changed: our commitment to putting Patients First and Improving Lives.

As we celebrate 10 years in South Riding, we're grateful for every patient and family who has trusted us with their care along the way.

10 Years in South Riding at a Glance

  • Opened: September 12, 2016

  • Our second Arthritis & Sports location

  • Opened with both orthopedic care and physical therapy

  • Began with orthopedic surgeon David S. Goodwin, MD and physical therapy

  • Today, patients have access to specialists in sports medicine, pediatric orthopedics, foot and ankle care, joint preservation, and more

  • On-site physical therapy and rehabilitation continue to provide coordinated care close to home

  • Serving patients throughout South Riding, Chantilly, Aldie, Loudoun County, and surrounding Northern Virginia communities

How Our South Riding Location Began

When Arthritis & Sports announced the new clinic in 2016, the goal was straightforward: bring the same specialized orthopedic care patients had come to know at our Sterling office closer to communities in southern Loudoun County.

The South Riding location opened with Dr. David Goodwin providing orthopedic care to all of our patients, plus physical therapy.

From the beginning, patients could receive physician evaluations, digital X-rays, and physical therapy in one location.

That combination was intentional.

Orthopedic care often doesn't end with a diagnosis. An injury may require rehabilitation. Surgery may be followed by weeks or months of recovery. Someone managing a painful joint may need help rebuilding strength and returning safely to activity.

Bringing orthopedic care and rehabilitation together made it easier for patients to move through that process with a connected team.

Ten years later, that remains an important part of the South Riding clinic.

Growing With the South Riding Community

South Riding itself has continued to grow over the past decade, and our practice has grown with it.

What began with a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon and physical therapy has expanded into a multidisciplinary orthopedic location where children, adults, athletes, and active families can receive care for a wide range of musculoskeletal problems.

Today, our South Riding orthopedic clinic provides care for sports injuries, hip and knee conditions, shoulder problems, pediatric orthopedic conditions, foot and ankle disorders, joint preservation, and other orthopedic concerns.

Patients also continue to have access to physical therapy and rehabilitation at the same location.

That growth allows us to care for more members of the same family, sometimes for very different reasons.

A young athlete may come in after an injury. A parent may need treatment for persistent shoulder or knee pain. Another family member may be recovering after surgery or dealing with a foot or ankle problem.

Our goal is to make sure each patient can find the right specialist and understand what comes next.

Meet Our South Riding Specialists

Our South Riding team now includes specialists with expertise across several areas of orthopedic and musculoskeletal care.

David S. Goodwin, MD

Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery

David S. Goodwin, MD has been part of our South Riding office since it opened in 2016.

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine, Dr. Goodwin treats both youth and adult patients with shoulder, knee, hip, and sports injuries.

His expertise includes arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures, advanced joint-preservation techniques, cartilage restoration, hip arthroscopy, and nonsurgical treatment options for selected orthopedic conditions.

A decade after helping open the South Riding clinic, Dr. Goodwin continues to care for athletes and active patients throughout the community.

Candice P. Holden, MD

Pediatric Orthopedics

Families can also see Candice P. Holden, MD, our board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Holden has more than 20 years of experience caring for children and adolescents with orthopedic injuries and conditions. Her practice includes fractures, sports injuries, growth-related concerns, and more complex pediatric orthopedic problems.

Having pediatric orthopedic care available in South Riding gives families access to a specialist who understands that children aren't simply smaller adults. Their bones are still growing, and their injuries and treatment needs can be different.

Sriya S. Babu, DPM, FACFAS

Foot and Ankle Care

Sriya S. Babu, DPM provides specialized foot and ankle care at our South Riding office.

Dr. Babu is a board-certified podiatric surgeon with advanced training in foot and ankle reconstruction and trauma. She treats conditions ranging from sports injuries and fractures to arthritis, tendon and ligament problems, bunions, deformities, and more complex foot and ankle conditions.

Her expertise includes both nonsurgical care and advanced surgical treatment when appropriate.

Orthopedic Care and Rehabilitation in One Location

One of the advantages of the South Riding office is the ability to provide both orthopedic care and rehabilitation under one roof.

Our physical therapy team works with patients recovering from orthopedic injuries, surgery, sports and work-related injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

South Riding rehabilitation services include:

  • Pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation

  • Sports and work-related injury rehabilitation

  • Therapeutic exercise

  • Dry needling

  • Therapeutic cupping

  • Individualized programs designed to restore strength, movement, and function

That connection between the orthopedic and rehabilitation teams can be especially helpful when a patient's treatment changes over time.

The goal isn't simply to treat an injury or painful joint. It's to help patients get back to the activities that matter to them.

A Decade of Putting Patients First

Ten years is easy to measure on a calendar.

What matters more are the people behind those years.

They're the patients who trusted us after an injury. The parents who brought in a child with a broken bone. The athletes working toward getting back on the field. The patients learning to move comfortably again after surgery. And the families who have returned to Arthritis & Sports when a new orthopedic need came up years later.

Those relationships are what allow a medical practice to become part of a community.

We're grateful to the patients who have chosen our South Riding team since 2016, to those who have recommended us to friends and family, and to the physicians, therapists, clinical staff, and administrative team members who have cared for them along the way.

Dr. David Goodwin reflects on his past decade in South Riding: "Since opening our South Riding clinic 10 years ago, it has been incredibly rewarding to be part of this community. I’ve had the privilege of caring for generations of patients and families and building relationships that have continued well beyond a single visit or injury. Looking back to 2016, I’m proud of what our team has built and grateful for the trust this community has placed in us. I am excited to see what the next 10 years will bring."

Thank You, South Riding

Reaching 10 years gives us an opportunity to look back, but we're just as excited about what comes next.

We'll continue to grow with the needs of our patients while staying focused on the principle that has guided Arthritis & Sports from the beginning: Patients First. Improve Lives.

To the South Riding community: thank you for welcoming us, growing with us, and trusting us with your care for the past decade.

We look forward to serving you for many years to come.
