Learn all about the hip, one of the largest joints in the human body
About the Hip
As a ball-and-socket joint, the hip lies at the top of the thigh bone and fits into a rounded socket in your pelvis, cushioned by protective cartilage. As one of the largest joints, the hip acts to support and stabilize the whole body. Injury, fracture, or damage to the hip or surrounding cartilage can make daily activities such as standing, sitting, or walking painful.
At Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics, Dr. Randall S. Peyton and Dr. David S. Goodwin provide unsurpassed surgical and non-surgical care for hip pain and injuries, specializing in treating all hip conditions for both young and old alike.
Dr. Randall Peyton continues to progress the field of orthopaedics, providing innovative, state-of-the-art treatment and techniques. He Peyton not only designed the Taperloc Hip System which provides a better hip implant-to-bone match, but is the first in the world to implant the Biomet Taperloc Microplasty Stem which spares bone in total hip replacements. He was also the first surgeon to perform a bilateral hip replacement in Northern Virginia, and teaches other orthopaedic surgeons joint reconstruction techniques using the anterior approach.
