About the Foot & Ankle

Providing support and stability to the whole body, most foot and ankle problems are caused by overuse and improper footwear, but can also be caused by arthritis and birth defects. The foot is a strong but delicate structure composed of 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles, and 107 ligaments. Common foot problems include foot and ankle arthritis, diabetic foot problems, heel pain, bunions, and hammertoes.

At Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Sam Wilson, Jr. and Dr. Sabina Malhotra treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. They each approach care in a conservative and preventative manner by using non-operative techniques, such as footwear modification education, physical therapy, or activity modification. In prolonged cases where non-operative techniques are unsuccessful, surgical options are then used to relieve pain.
