About Electrodiagnostic Medicine

Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) are electrodiagnostic tests that measure the electrical activity of muscles and nerves to determine if there is nerve injury or damage and identify the source of muscle weakness, pain or numbness. Common reasons patients are referred for an electrodiagnostic tests include cervical, thoracic or lumbar pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the upper and lower extremities.
