Hand Therapist (PT/OT)

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists patients with all phases of hand therapy treatment and techniques including orthosis fabrication, exercise instruction, manual therapy techniques, modalities, and activities of daily living.
Evaluates incoming patient conditions to determine appropriate physical treatment programs and consults with referring physicians regarding diagnosis.
Documents treatments rendered on billing sheets and in appropriate patient charts, records patient conditions and responses to treatments in charts after each visit, prepares patient care and progress notes and other required forms as requested.
Develops and implements physical/occupational therapy treatment programs based on each patient’s particular needs.
Consults with referring Physicians regarding patient diagnosis and communicates changes via progress notes.
Communicates with referring Physicians and other team members (Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants) regarding patient therapy and equipment.
Communicates with Physical Therapy Assistants to perform interim therapy evaluations to continually modify and update treatment programs.
Operates and applies knowledge of standard therapy equipment.
Composes discharge notes for patients and refers to appropriate outside sources as necessary.
Attends continuing educational courses to obtain advanced critical skills.
Maintains current knowledge of Physical/Occupational Therapist roles and continuing trends in the industry.
Communicates with potential referral sources to expand existing business and cultivate new business.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in Occupational or Physical Therapy from an accredited school
Current Virginia PT/OT license
Certified Hand Therapist (preferred)
CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
Prior outpatient work-related experience (preferred)
